Mowlānā Jalāloddin Balkhi or Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Balkhī or simply Rumi, was born in 1207 in a province of Afghanistan. After the traumatic loss of one of his dear friends—who Rumi credits with sparking his poetry– Rumi decided to write over 40,000 lyric verses. Rumi then went on to write a 64,000 line poem over the span of 12 years. These two works make up Rumi’s masterpieces of poetry (Academy of American Poets).
Personally, Rumi is one of my all-time favorite sources of quotes. His words are just so pure, so authentic, so deep and so full of heart. A few years ago, I picked up this book of Rumi quotes and it truly was such a feeling of alignment when I would pick it up and read it!
Here are seven quotes from Rumi all about the topic of joy!
