August can seem a bit like a month of opposites— for many people it’s full-on summer mode with vacations and relaxing while for others they see the return of more structure and routines as we head back-to-school.
Whether it be traveling and vacationing or going back-to-school, this month is a busy one!
Given this, August’s joy book is a short and sweet (but still powerful!) read.
Keep on reading to learn more about the book!
Introducing the Book
Did you know the average person thinks more than 6,000 thoughts a day?
Breaking that down—subtracting the time we sleep— we have about 6.5 thoughts per minute!
This month’s short little joy book is all about this idea of utilizing these thoughts we think per day to intentionally choose ones that are powerfully positive for ourselves and others!
As a Man Thinketh and As a Woman Thinketh focuses on the power of our thoughts- more specifically the power of choosing thoughts that are empowering and positive-and the wonderful effects that occur from choosing those thoughts!
It’s truly just a little book— it’s more of a pamphlet in some ways— which makes it such an easy book to take with you on travels or to keep in your bag while you are waiting in line somewhere. Despite its little size, it honestly and truly packs a big punch with the content it presents.
“As he thinks, so is he; as he continues to think, so he remains.” -James Allen
Questions to Ask Yourself
Here are some questions to consider while you read the book this month!
I’m personally not a person who uses guided reading questions—feels a little too school-y for when you are reading for fun! I kept that in mind when developing these questions with the intention and hope they are useful and fun to think about!
A Final Note on Joy
I feel like so many of us are walking around without any real consciousness of our thoughts— we just assume that our thoughts are us, and that we don’t have any real control over them. However, we totally do!
We can totally change our thoughts to reflect more empowerment, more hope, more dreams and ultimately more joy!
As a Woman Thinketh reminds us in a deep sense that there is power in choosing thoughts that serve our highest and best selves… and the results from doing so will be profound!
Given the research surrounding Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (or CBT), this makes sense that choosing better thoughts for ourselves leads to better outcomes!
